I’m one of those people who will read a ton of reviews & watch videos of a product before purchasing them. I have NEVER EVER left any reviews myself but the havoc that this cleanser in combination with the 9% Mandelic toner wreaked on my skin has warranted one & I feel compelled to share in hopes of sparing someone else the trauma.
I had previously used the 3% Mandelic toner with my DermaDoctor Ain’t Misbehavin Cleanser late last year & the results were ideal. With that combination I experienced minor to moderate peeling but there was no irritation.
However, this cleanser $ the 9% version of the Mandelic toner gave me the worst skin reaction I have ever had in my life. For context, I am a 25 year old African-American woman with a normal skin type & a few dry areas. I would not call my skin acne prone but every so often I may get a blemish or few. I bought the items to help with the hyperpigmentation around my mouth & a few acne scars.
I ordered both items a little over a month ago. I followed the instructions & used the products on alternating days. I experienced a burning sensation, moderate peeling, & redness. I expected some irritation & chalked it up to my skin acclimating to the products.
I never got to the stage where I could use the products daily because I noticed how dry my skin was after cleansing & the burning sensation from the toner never stopped; it always left me red in those same dry areas. I stopped usage immediately once I saw a rash begin to develop. This occurred in the middle of week two.
I then reverted back to an old oil cleaner, milk cleanser, and generic gentle toner that I keep in my stash to ease the the irritation & within a few days the rash cleared up. Only the sides of my nose were still red.
Which brings us into week 4! ... Because I had spent $98 on the products I tried to use them again $ literally within 2 days I have developed this disgusting itchy rash that burns. ...
Hello Sadia. We are sorry to hear about your experience. The Mandelic Acid 3-In-1 Exfoliating Cleanser is recommended for oily or combination skin. For sensitive skin we recommend the milder Mandelic Acid 3-In-1 Wash. You paired the Exfoliating Cleanser with the 9% Mandelic Acid 3-In-1 Toner, the strongest of our mandelic acid toners. This is a combination recommended for more resistant acne or very oily skin. We always recommend starting at the lowest levels and acclimating the skin by introducing the products slowly. You mention you had great success with the 3% Mandelic Acid 3-In-1 Toner late last year. If you stopped using it for a while before beginning the 9%, your skin would no longer be acclimated, so it would have been best to go back to the 3% and re-acclimate before moving up to the 9%. Because dark skin is more reactive, it’s important to introduce products slowly. If you’re unsure about which products are best for your regimen, you can always reach our in-house esthetician through the customer care email or phone number listed on our website. Additionally, we offer 60-day money-back guarantee. We have already issued you a refund and are sending you some complimentary products that will get your regimen back on track. Thank you for contacting us!
I've been using this cleanser for about a week and a half and my scars are already fading. It leaves my skin so soft and i see my skin tone evening out. I purchased a serum, moisturizer, and toner just the other day so i cannot wait to start my full skincare routine using all Vivant products. Nothing but great results so far.
