If you’re looking for a way to help your teen manage acne, you’ve come to the right place. The Vivant line was born from Dr. Fulton’s personal struggle with cystic acne. His lifelong search for more effective solutions led him to develop and advance some of acne care’s most trusted ingredients, including Retin-A® and REt (RP)™ Retinoid, PanOxyl®, the first stabilized Benzoyl Peroxide gel, and Clinical Mandelic Acid.

That clinical expertise informs the simple, protocol-based approach that has helped thousands of teens control breakouts, minimize lingering discoloration and acne scarring, and lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy skin.

Here’s how to help your teen get started.

Why It Helps to Start Early

One of the biggest myths about acne is that teen breakouts are best left alone because “they’ll grow out of it.”

Acne begins below the surface long before a pimple becomes visible. When breakouts recur or become inflamed, repeated damage to the follicle and surrounding tissue can make it harder for the skin to recover.

Establishing good skincare habits before breakouts begin and introducing an appropriate acne protocol at the first sign of blackheads, whiteheads, or blemishes can help keep acne from becoming harder to manage and reduce the risk of discoloration and scarring.

Where to Begin

Start with four essential steps every morning and evening:

  1. Cleanse to remove excess oil, perspiration, sunscreen, and buildup.
  2. Tone to help remove residual debris and loosen dead surface cells.
  3. Correct with acne-focused ingredients that help clear existing impactions and prevent new ones from forming.
  4. Hydrate and protect with products appropriate for acne-prone skin, including daily sunscreen.

Vivant’s four-step protocols take the guesswork out of building a routine. The products work together to address the dead skin accumulation, excess oil, bacteria, and inflammation that contribute to breakouts.

Clear & Bright Protocol I is designed for dry to normal skin, while Clear & Bright Protocol II is designed for normal to oily skin. Both include acne-focused formulas appropriate for skin new to clinical actives.

These proven ingredients developed by Dr. Fulton form the corrective core of the Clear and Bright Protocols:

Benzoyl Peroxide targets acne-causing bacteria and helps clear impactions. It is especially helpful for inflamed blemishes.

Clinical Mandelic Acid helps loosen dead surface cells, clear congested pores, refine texture, and improve the appearance of discoloration left behind by blemishes.

REt (RP)™ Retinoid helps increase cellular turnover to shed dead skin cells, clear clogged pores, and improve visible clarity and texture while minimizing irritation.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Make Consistency Easy

Keep products visible and connect the routine to an existing habit, such as brushing their teeth. Encourage consistency, but don’t let skincare become another source of pressure.

Treat the Entire Acne-Prone Area

By the time a blemish becomes visible, others may already be developing beneath the surface in the surrounding skin. Apply acne products in a thin layer across the entire acne-prone area to help maintain clarity overall.

Know What to Expect as Skin Adjusts

The skin needs time to acclimate to corrective ingredients. Initially, skin may seem dry or flaky as oil decreases and dead skin is shed. Ingredients that increase cellular turnover can also bring pimples already forming beneath the surface into view more quickly. This temporary increase in blemishes is known as purging and typically occurs where your teen already tends to break out.

Begin at the recommended frequency and increase gradually as the skin adjusts. If irritation becomes excessive, reduce the frequency rather than abandoning the routine altogether.

Give the Routine Time to Work

Most acne routines need at least six to eight weeks of consistent use before you can fairly evaluate the results. Red or dark marks left after blemishes can take longer to fade.

Keep Going When Skin Clears

Acne can be controlled, but the factors that contribute to it don’t disappear immediately. Maintaining the protocol helps prevent new breakouts from forming.

Add a Booster When Needed

Once your teen is comfortable with the daily protocol, a targeted booster can help with persistent congestion.

Sulfur Clay Mask Acne Treatment helps draw excess oil and pore-clogging debris to the surface while refining the appearance of pores. Use it once or twice weekly.

For more persistent breakouts, BP 10% Acne Medication Gel provides intensive benzoyl peroxide correction to target acne-causing bacteria and help clear clogged pores.

Ice is one of the simplest ways to help reduce visible redness and inflammation. Gently glide an ice cube over the blemish, keeping it moving to avoid prolonged contact with the skin.

For an intensive boost, combine all three. Ice the skin before applying a layer of BP 10% BP Acne Medication Gel. Allow it to dry, then apply Sulfur Clay Mask. Wait ten minutes and rinse the mask off with water.

Support Better Everyday Habits

Even the best protocol benefits from a few acne-conscious habits.

What If You’ve Already Tried Everything?

If your teen has moved quickly from product to product, they may not have given any one routine enough time to work. Mixing products from different lines can also create incompatibilities, while skincare, makeup, and hair products may contain comedogenic ingredients that contribute to clogged pores. Check their product labels against this list of pore-clogging ingredients. Check their product labels against this list of pore-clogging ingredients.

If acne is deep, painful, causing scars, affecting your teen’s confidence, or not improving with consistent care, it may be time to consult a dermatologist.

Acne is not a sign that your teen is doing something wrong, and it is not something they simply have to endure. With an appropriate protocol, realistic expectations, and steady support, visibly clear, healthy skin is achievable.
