Is There a Quick Fix for Discoloration and Dark Spots?

Is There a Quick Fix for Fading Discoloration and Dark SpotsWe hate to be the bearers of bad news, but if you’re hoping to find a miracle, overnight treatment to fade discoloration, forget it. Not going to happen. Excess pigment is a problem that’s rooted deep under the surface of the skin. Removing it is a layer by layer process of exfoliation and rejuvenation that takes time and patience.

The good news is that with the right products and consistent application, you can see a difference in four to six weeks that will continue to improve over time until you reach the dramatic difference you’re seeking.

What’s the best course?

Because the pigment is rooted deep in the dermis, lifting it away requires removing the upper layers of skin through exfoliation. This must be done in stages over time. Acids and retinoids can be used daily for this purpose. Vivant’s patented Vitamin A therapies accelerate cell turnover from the usual thirty days to about fourteen, so while still not technically a “quick-fix,” it will definitely get you to your goal more quickly, and with the bonus of boosting collagen production, clearing acne, and helping to prevent additional photodamage.

Acids are also a great way to slough off the upper layers of skin to help lift dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Our favorite for this purpose is mandelic acid because, in addition to being a micro-exfoliator, it suppresses the formation of melanin, so it’s both reparative and preventative. Its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties make it excellent for fighting acne, and for darker skin tones, mandelic has another bonus. Its larger molecular structure makes it penetrate the skin more slowly, so it doesn’t cause irritation that can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

The quickest way to see dramatic results is with a Vivant Progressive ProPeel®. This is a medium-depth peel done by your aesthetician. It removes just the top two to three layers of skin to rapidly improve skin texture, reduce discoloration, and promote regeneration. As a bonus, the newly regenerated skin is more receptive to additional products, so the benefits continue to multiply. While you will see immediate improvement with a ProPeel®, you’ll get your best results with a series of three or four peels about six to eight weeks apart.
