9 Simple Strategies for Younger Looking Skin

9 Simple Strategies for Younger Looking Skin

Good news. We have sipped from the fountain of youth and it tastes a lot like champagne. Bad news. It’s not getting the job done. (See our recent post on alcohol and skin.) Our research shows that keeping the signs of aging at bay requires real-world strategies as opposed to fantasy. We’ve compiled a list of the best ones here.

Cleanse with care

With age, skin tends to become drier, which could mean the cleanser you’ve relied on for years may no longer be the best choice. Post-forty, you should be using something that gently removes dirt and oil without drying. Vivant’s Cleansing Milk or Green Tea Antioxidant Cleanser are both good choices for mature skin and each can be mixed with Vivant’s Buffing Grains for an exfoliating boost.

Feed your face

Eating foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids helps keep skin looking younger and healthier. These acids strengthen the skin barrier, which keeps harmful bacteria out and moisture in resulting in a fresher, more youthful appearance. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids include seafood (especially tuna and salmon), walnuts, canola oil, and flax seed.

Keep your chin up

Exercise is not just for abs and thighs. The platysma muscle is a wide sheet that covers the your chin and lower cheeks down to your sternum. As we age, it slackens and begins to sag. Hello, turkey neck. Keep it firmed, toned and tightened with a few low impact movements and stretches. Click here for a simple exercise routine.

More sex. Less sugar

Sex releases endorphins, reduces stress, increases circulation, and according to Scottish psychologist and researcher Dr. David Weeks, can make you look up to seven years younger if you do it at least three times a week. Conversely, sugar does the opposite causing inflammation, glycation and oxidative stress, all factors that accelerate aging.

Sleep, and lots of it

This may seem to conflict with the previous suggestion. Just skip Netflix and get an earlier start because lack of sleep accelerates the signs of aging, impedes your skin’s ability to repair and leaves you with dreaded dark circles. Sleeping on your back and using a silk pillowcase can help you avoid sleep lines that turn into wrinkles.

Curtail Cocktail Hour

Alcohol dehydrates, leading to dull, sallow skin and makes pores and lines appear larger. Wine has a fair amount of sugar and cocktails are often mixed with sugary syrups or juices. Best to keep your consumption to just one or two drinks a two to three times a week. And do we even need to mention smoking? Worst thing ever for skin.

Hydrate

Drink water throughout the day. Good hydration promotes healthy circulation, flushes out toxins, aids in skin repair and helps give skin a plump radiant appearance. And it’s as easy as carrying a refillable water bottle.

Protect your skin with antioxidants

Exposure to UV radiation and environmental pollutants releases free radicals in your skin that cause oxidative stress that brings on fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Vivant’s Spin Trap Antioxidant Serum harnesses the proven synergy vitamins C and E to shield skin from free radical damage, stimulates cell regeneration and promotes elasticity for youthful looking skin.

Plump with peptides

Collagen and elastin decrease as you age causing skin to sag and lines to form. Peptides, short molecular chains of protein-building amino acids, put the plumpness back, by boosting your skin’s ability to produce natural collagen and elastin. In studies, topical use of peptides resulted a significant decrease in the number and average depth of wrinkles. For maximum rejuvenation, try Vivant’s peptide-based Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream to brighten and lift delicate skin around the eyes and Rejuv RX Peptide Concentrate for a smoother, firmer face, neck and décolletage.

Smile

It’s the one-second make-over. Everyone looks young, vibrant and beautiful when they’re smiling.
